Listen- I am that mom.  The first time mom who wanted to have EVERY hot baby item on the market when my first son Asher was born.  And he had everything.  Mainly because as a first-time mom, I simply did not know which items were necessities compared to which were things I wouldn’t be able to live without.  So we ended up with several high priced baby items that we barely ever used.   Talk about a waste of money!  Now that I am recently off the birth of baby number two, I complied a list of which items are on daily rotation in our house to aide as a resource to fellow mamas trying to decide what they REALLY need.

This is a list of must-have newborn essentials that help me with soothing, bathing, cleaning, and getting baby to sleep.  And believe me- anything that helps the baby sleep is a major MUST HAVE!

10 MUST-HAVE Newborn Essentials

newborn essentials you won't be able to live without!

This list is not all inclusive as there are other necessary items you will need that I did not include on this mini list of newborn essentials such as a crib, changing set up, infant car seat, stroller, zippered sleepers, hand mittens, socks, wash towels, diapers/wipes, and baby soap!  I left those off simply because I know most moms realize those are items they will need when making their baby registries.

Infantino Twist and Fold Activity Gym   –  This is the perfect mat for tummy time and to help entertain your little one.  I like that it is unisex so you can use it for multiple babies.  It is easy to store away as it folds with one hand which is perfect because baby gear takes up so much room in your house!

Honest Organic Nipple Balm  –  If you are nursing, you will live by this in those early days when baby is still learning to latch properly.  This balm is organic which I love and completely safe for baby so you can slather it on with ease to prevent chapping, cracking or bleeding nipples.

4Moms Infant Tub–  This tub is LIFE.  I love it because it has a built in thermometer to let you know when the water temperature is safe for the baby.

Graco Soothing System Gliding Swing – I know, I know-  I did not put the 4Moms Mamaroo on the list.  And as a fellow mom product snob myself, I understand if you shy away from brands like Graco but listen- this swing is LIFE and I went with this system instead of the Mamaroo for several reasons.  First of all, it is a swing and a bouncer so you do not need to purchase two different products.  It has a lot of features built in that are great for soothing like white noise, 5 speed settings, and the seat vibrates.  Both of my babies have slept so peacefully in this swing and is a much better price point than the Mamaroo.

I can’t say enough good things about this swing guys- it was my saving grace with getting my first son to sleep!

Boppy Newborn Lounger Pillow –  This lounge pillow is perfect for daytime naps on the couch.  Both of my boys have loved this.

WubbaNub Pacifier–  My first son did not take a pacifier but baby number two does and pacifiers are known for getting lost or falling to the floor multiple times a day.  This pacifier is perfect because the pacifier is attached to a cuddly little animal that grips into the baby’s hands perfectly.  No more lost paci’s and it is super cute to see the baby snuggle with it.

DockATot  –  If you plan on co-sleeping, you will not be able to live without this!  It is portable and completely safe for co-sleeping.  My son was sleeping for 5 hours stretches at night by 3 weeks old thanks to this!  It snuggles around the baby so it reminds them of being inside the womb and it makes night time nursing sessions so much more convenient since baby is right next to you!

I don’t know how I survived my first kid without the DockATot.  My 7 week old is already sleeping for 5-6 hour stretches and I attribute it partially to the DockATot.

Burt’s Bees Baby Burp Cloths –  I swear by the Burt’s Bees Baby line.  The products are natural and organic which I love and they have the most precious items.  The burp cloths often go on sale and you will want to buy plenty to catch all the spit up and drool.  I keep these everywhere.

Aden + Anais swaddles   –  If your baby likes to be swaddled, you will definitely want to grab these.  I love this brand because of the cute prints!

Burt’s Bees Baby Bodysuits – Newborns go through LOTS of clothes so lots of onesies are definitely needed.  I like the Burt’s Bees Baby ones because they are organic and the perfect creamy white!

These are all products I own and use faithfully!  I hope this helps you if you are expecting or helps when shopping for baby showers.  What are some newborn baby items you could not live without?  Let me know in the comments!
