This weekend, I took on the task of refreshing our living room sofa following a simple process I did about six months ago. Guys- this technique really works with neutralizing pet odors as well as making the furniture look like it has been professionally cleaned. If you are looking for an affordable, natural and practical solution to spruce up your furniture, this post is for you! Keep reading to find out how to refresh your furniture in 3 easy steps.
I am sure I am not the only one who gets a little sick of their furniture after a while. But if you are practicing life on a budget like we are right now, then replacing your furniture or paying for a professional cleaning service may not be practical. Regardless, there is something therapeutic about changing things up in your home. Simply rearranging the furniture or giving it a good cleaning can make all the difference!
I know there are a million other ways you could go about cleaning your furniture but this technique is 100% natural so you are not bringing chemicals into your home. You are also really getting out the odors instead of just masking over it like commercial deodorizer products tend to do. You likely already have these products on hand!
Heres what you will need:
3 simple items- cleaning vinegar, baking soda, and a spray bottle! You will also need a vacuum (handheld or furniture attachment). Fill up the spray bottle with half vinegar and half hot water.
Step One: Remove throw pillows and vacuum all loose particals from the couch cushions. Also remove couch cushions so you can vacuum out the inside. Important to start with a surface free of debris before cleaning!
Step Two: Spray the couch with the vinegar and water solution and allow it to sit for at least 20 minutes. Don;t worry about your house spelling like vinegar. The baking soda will eliminate the vinegar smell almost immediately! After the solution sits, take the baking soda and sprinkle it over the entire couch to neutralize the vinegar – this is acting as a natural deodorizer.
Step Three: After the baking soda has been sitting for about a half hour, vacuum the entire couch to remove the baking soda.
So easy and effective! If you have pets, I would recommend doing this to your furniture at least every 6 months. It really makes a big difference if you are wanting to preserve your furniture until you are able to plunge on new pieces.
There you have it! Simple, natural and effective. How do you refresh your furniture? Let me know in the comments if you have tried any other techniques that effectively removes stains and odors naturally!
Have a fantastic Tuesday!
